Default Basic exhaust questions!!!

Ryan, thanks for the websites. They were very helpful. Do you guys know of anyone who has been passed the db limit? What happens to you! How tough are they about that? The website said the white bros. was 100db. Yikes!

If an officer takes the time to stop you, and then test you, you're getting a ticket if you're A) over the 92dB sound level limit, or B) not using a spark arrestor.

Most aftermarket race silencers, exhaust systems, whatever will NOT meet 92 dB sound level requirements, and it will be very obvious to the officer whether or not your system is stock. I've used the FMF 'Q' series pipes before, which are pretty decent in terms of performance, and they claim to meet 92dB.

Other than that, some systems offer 'tunable' endcaps, which allow adjustment of the overall sound level. So if you're attending a race, you can add discs to increase flow (and therefore sound output), and if you're heading to a sound restricted area, remove discs to reduce the sound level. White Brothers and Yoshimura offer systems like this, for example.

I've seen many, many tickets written for guys with loud aftermarket exhaust systems, usually about $100 to $150 a ticket. Not fun stuff, it can ruin your day.

Good luck.

Default Basic exhaust questions!!!

Just to update you all, I ended up buying the K&N filter, and the White Bros. E Series. I just got done putting them on last night. I took it out for a spin on our farm, and boy it did make a difference! I can't wait to take it to the dunes! I guess the newer pipe by white bros. rates at 96 db. Still too loud for Florence or Winchester, but thats ok. Hahaha. Boy, this stuff is addicting though, I'm already thinking about what comes next! New plastics? Header? LOL, I think i need to win the lottery.....

Thanks again!

I think the FCR carb with a pipe is one of the biggest gains you will see. That carb does more for the 400ex than any other bike I have seen.
