Default Shocks question for 450R owners..

Guys, I was just curious how you were running your shocks and the environments you ride in. I've not had the opportunity to set the shocks up correctly, but should be able to next time I ride. I did go ahead and set / made sure the shocks were at their factory settings per the owner's manual. I didn't pay enough attention to where they were before adjusting, but they now match the manual.

I just hope I don't hit a big whoop and get bucked off next time I ride. I guess I should take the time and adjust them like I've seen in other posts. I was just curious if the 450R owners are riding with the suspension more to the hard or soft side. I would assume more to the hard side, but I am curious for feedback. These shocks are the first set of shocks that I've had that you can adjust compression, rebound and preload, so I am new to this.

I am riding some fairly rough trails at decent speeds. There a couple small jumps, hill climbs et. When I took the quad out for the first hard ride over the whoops, I could tell the rebound was a little to fast. I think I will have to harden the rebound and the compression for the type of trails that I ride.

Guys, any input you have on this topic is appreciated. Some of the feedback I received earlier today has helped tremendously.

I have found that it is a mistake to mess with the suspension to much until it is broken in. That means at least a few hours. That said, I did have to increase the rebound damping (one whole turn in) in the back, otherwise I would get bucked off into the next county! The front feels pretty good, but the back is going to need a lot of work. Just don't rush it, or you will be redoing it every ride.

Getting that suspension just right, is on of the most rewarding things you can do! I ride BIG desert whoops, so I have my work cut out for me!

we softened it up one or two clicks while we were at the dunes. They were pretty choppy.

I've got a couple of hours on it now. The rebound was to soft when I rode the other day. I think I will check the preload for sag height, leave the compression at stock and set the rebound one full turn towards the hard (rebound dampening). I will then adjust as necessary. I won't be hitting big air on the trails and will be able to tell how the compression feels. The rebound is the only part of the shock adjustment that overly concerns me. I would rather have the rebound dampened for hard trails and adjust down than to have the rebound to fast and have the rear end go flying up in the air across a hard whoop. Just my thoughts,
