yo. I just bought new DG alloy nerfs for my 400ex... i put them on today, and they are so cheap!!!! i weigh 170, and when I stand on them they bend!!! WTF??? I thought that nerfs were for jumpung or some extra foot stability!! I can't even stand on them when i am riding!! I have my bolts as tight as possible, and the u-bracket bolts are toght too.. is this normal?? is ALLOY crap??? is it ok for them to bend??? please help... it is soooo frustrating.. $150 down the drain??

I have a DG and mne does not bend. I have stood on them before and i weigh 145. I also lift the quad up on its side by grapping the nerf bar and lifting the qyad up on it's side (to drain the crackcase oil). and that is like lifting 300lbs. Maybe you have bad welds...

When I was putting in my new axle I used the nerf bars to hold the 250 up..They are dg alloy series.I used them to hold the atv up I put jack stands under them so i didn't hvae to put them on the frame.I also did the same thing when i put my a-arms on.Minre haven't been bent yet and I raced them them on and got t-boned a couple times and they just got a little of the coating scratched up.

ok.. then i guess i'll live with it... nerf bars RULE!!! they look good.. But i have a question.. what are they for? jumping? incase your foot slides off? wider stance in cornering? easier to kick out? ALL of the above? thanks for the replies.

Just to keep your feet from the ground and to keep stumps and other ridings from hitting your motor. Or legs!

Or not. Nerfs were originally made for racing. They fill the gap between the front tire and the rear tire. This, used in racing will keep another front tire from another quad getting tangled up in your ATV. This and for jumping it gives you an extra area for landing your feet on if you cant hit the pegs.
