Worth the 350x drop??
#1
I am thinking of dropping a 350x engin into the my 300ex chassie (94'). It will cost me around 900-1200 dollars to find a good engin. I would like to know if it would be worth it? i would like to have some extra power with my 300. So what kind of difference is it 300ex vs. 350x engin? powerwise. Is the drop easy?

Because with an all new 350x engin, i can have 6 gears, and have Room for more modification. On the 300ex i have now, i have room for a big bore kit, and thats about it. (except cam and carb). And (IF) i were to get the bigbore, and then get sick of the power....than what? WHy not just pay the extra 400 for the 350x engin itself

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that a 350X engine(stock) produces around 22-23 horse-power. With a meduim amount of modifications, 23HP can be easily reached with a 300EX motor, without sacraficing reliability. Plus there is no "custom" fitting or extra work involved in just keeping the "stock" motor.
A 350X motor would require a different head-pipe to fit in the frame, plus motor mounts. You don't get reverse either.
Just my 2 cents.

I am concidering the swap myself.
I understand a stock 350x motor makes 27 HP.
compared to 18 HP of the 300ex.
282cc's vs. 350cc it's a big jump, torque is a major factor too. I don't have #'s, but i figure a 15-20% torque increas is about right.
with the six speed trans and power increase, top speed should be in the 65-70mph range
that's quick enough to run with the big boys
