I Ride in Water alot and wonder if anyone has ever taken their Rubicon in deep water about pto the racks or over...

does it drown easy and fast?
does it hurt it real bad?
is it fixable with all the hightech parts?

I'm guessin it goes good in water as long as you keep water out of the air breather.Like any other Honda. The belt won't slip because there isn't one.

I rode with two new Rubicons yesterday. Both had 27 inch Mud Bugs. The only time they had problems was when they were in mud up to the racks. I watched them check there airbox tube at the end of the day. Just a few drops.

Do birds Fly? The whole purpose of the Honda tranny, was to make it a better water machine than conventional Auto's. Yes it can go in water, as long as it can breathe.

Alaskaweasel,

I seriously doubt "the whole purpose of the Honda tranny, was to make it a better water machine than conventional Auto's".

Let's come down to earth for a moment and think like ATV marketing guys and ATV lawyers. The purpose was to gain market share that is rapidly being lost to the other manufacturer's auto tranny's. Auto's attract a segment of the market that manual and ES shift machines don't. It all comes down to money in the manufacturer's pocket.

Don't think the manufacturer's are ever trying to build the best deep mudder. Their lawyers are constantly watching and advising.

Send us the Honda promo literature that backs up your claim. Copy the owners manual section that discusses submarining the new Honda Rubicon. I guarantee you won't find it.

To answer the original question: As with other ATVs, the Rubicon is fitted with an engine and tranny that is sealed, snorkelled, and vented as best as the manufacturer's could muster. What are it's limits? The manufacturer's sure as heck aren't going to tell us. They have designed the unit to withstand a bit of mud, splashing water from high speed runs, etc etc. They don't want us doing much more with it. Only personal tests and reports will tell us what the limits are.

DJ
