I'm thinking of putting a KN on my 300ex, to help open it up, i already have a high flow header and dg exhaust, plus i have a bigger main jet, and i just had engine work done, .030 over, but i have few questions. one, are they better then a good foam, 2, do you need to keep the air filter element (the wire screen thing found under the stock foam filter) ??

IN MY OPINION I THINK K&N IS BETTER, GO WITH THE K&N.

00' RECON
K&N FILTER
OUTERWEARS PRE-FILTER
PRM SKID PLATE (ON THE WAY)

Everyone think that KN rules. I will stick with a foam filter. KN lets alot of dirt in the motor on dusty trails. Also bring an extra pre oiled filter and change it mid way through the day. I would not reccommend KN filters for off road.
Also all u people that put a kn filter on a bike/atv dont forget to jet the carb!!!

I've heard that if you also get the K&N foam pre-filter, that it does a better job of filtering the fine dust than the stock filter. The pre-filter is only 10 bucks, so I'd definitely get it if I were going to buy a K&N (which I probably will someday)

get the K&N and a outerwears prefilter flows much more than foam and as far as letting dirt in the engine im lmao it dosnt thats BS
BTW if i have to rebuild my engine because of my K&N i'll tell you
make sure with a K&N you keep it oiled when it turns white it canot filter near as well so clean and oil it as soon as parts turn white

Just say no to K&N. The filter is not worth the damage they do to the motor. I have worked on too many bikes that have wore out before there time from dirt and grit that made it to the rings.

My $0.02.......
recently the trails by my house have been real real dusty, and loose dirt. I have a K&N with a Prefilter, and i run with the lid off all the time. When i go around this circular track with doubles, mad dust builds up, and it takes forever to settle. I took my filter out, and saw the prefilter covered with dust, looked at the K&N, and it was real clean. I also pulled it off and felt the inside of the black tube, again no dust. The K&N filter with a precharger is definatly a better protector than the stock foam filter, (from my expirence).

Ride HARD!!
