I went riding yesterday all day on my 99 400EX. It ran fine all day long and never sputtered. I parked it for the night, then when I came back to it today, it started right up. It idled while I put my helmet, gloves, and goggles on, then when I went to go down the road it still went fine. I was only going about 1/4th throtle, but when I gave it to her, she just sputtered, then wouldn't start anymore. It turns over fine, but won't start. So I took it home and started playing with it. I took the spark plug out and there was no spark. I put my friends coil and wire on mine and still no spark, but when we put it back on his, it worked fine. I checked all the fuses. I checked wires. What could it be? Once and a while I will get a little bit of spark but nothing like it should be. Please help. I want to go riding badly.

It sounds like your plug is oil fouled. That's what happens when I dump too much 2-cycle oil into Banshee's fuel tank. I'dm change the spark plug and if it happens again, it means you're getting oil in the cylinder somehow...and since it's a four stroke, that's not good...means a ring is bad. hope this helps.

Test all of your switches: ignition, kill etc. And don't just test them using an ohm meter, swap them too with your friend's 400EX.

Then again, it could be your CDI box.

Thanks for all the replys guys!! I trades CDI's with my friend this morning and it fired right up and ran fine. When I put mine back on it, it wouldn't run again. I guess I'll be ordering an aftermarket rev limiter. Thanks again.
