I just bought a 300ex and it doesnt have a owners manual. I am going to change the oil and I need to know if it has a filter and were it is located.

Yes it does. It is on the clutch side of the motor (right side as you sit on it). It has a cover with horizonal lines on it. It has 3 8mm screws holding it on. There is an o-ring sealing it, and a spring pushing on the filter.

 

just get under the atv and drain the oil. un bolt where the oil filter is (i think on the right side too). put in a new oil filter. then put in 1.5 quarts (i think thats right) in.

 

the manual says 1.69 quarts. so put in one then 3/4 of another one. crank it up and let run for maybe 3 to 5 minutes kill it let it set for a minute or two and check the oil level without screwing in the dipstick. add oil if ya need it. later

 

MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE FILTER IN THE RIGHT WAY OR YOU WILL DO MOTOR DAMAGE!!!!

 

i have a mint 91 250x & 00 400ex they take the same filter & i buy them at pepboys auto store for $3.99

 

the filter is a common type....i am told its the same as the xr250 and honda 300 etc....

 

hey I dont have a manual either. does anyone know if the 300ex has tranny fluid? if so how and how often do I change it?

 

its the same oil as the engine
