Will not work, besides, they break really easy if you beat them very hard.

Sure, if you do enough work you could put any type of swingarm you wanted to on but the 400EX swingarm will not just simply bolt on.

I have checked, they seem really close. What is the stumbling block?

BTW, won't any swingarm (esp stock) break if beat really hard? I, personally have broken 250R and 350X steel swingarms (and bend a whole lot of the insides of rear wheels in the process), but have had good luck with my EX so far (not the wheels though ).... Although a friend has broken his, knowing him and what the bike was put thru, I don't lay blame on the swingarm...

Oh yeah, I finally sold that spare swingarm I had, after 5 months, no inquiry's for a replacement of a broken 400EX swingarm. Loads of people wanting to graft it onto their 250R. It went to a guy who is doing a 400EX to XR600 conversion.

I know you see a lot of bikes, used in extreme conditions, how many stock 250R swingarms do you see break, or have most of them already been replaced?

As far as the stock 250R swingarms I have seen a lot of broken ones. Most people who still race the 250R have already replaced their swingarms with something aftermarket by now but you still see some stock ones around. As far as the 400, one of my teammates has already went broken three in the last year and a half. He races the four stroke mod class at the GNCC's and is currently running in first in points. Another teammate who runs the open A class has broken two. Anything wiil break when pushed to the limits. Another teammate has broken his Roll Design frame. I also know people with Leager and Lonestar frames that have broken. Just this past weekend while riding the cylinder on a friends 250R cracked from the exhaust port back to the reed cage. This was a first for me but who knows mine could go next.

What is causing your teammate's breakages? You guys are woods racing right, not much airtime or suspension bottoming? Clipping trees?

The one we have broken was a 215lbs or so rider getting a lot of air onto flat landings. He had a couple of big air landings with the front in the sky (no suspension action), it cracked and broke shortly thereafter... I also believe one wheel landings are a big cause (esp with an extended axle)

Yes, we are strickly woods racers. You may find this hard to believe but most people who have raced both MX and woods will tell you overall woods racing is much harder on a bike. Yes, MX has large jumps but that is about it. For the most part, MX is raced on a man made track that has a relatively smooth surface. You can go into this type of race pretty much knowing what you are going to encounter and it stays pretty consistant from lap to lap and track to track. This makes it a lot easier to set up a bike as it will consistantly encounter the same type of obstacles. Also, take in consideration that a typical MX race will last 30 miutes(2 motos). A woods race is typically 2-1/2 hours. Most cracking problems on an MX bike is due to improper setup. When in the woods you will entercounter anything to MX size jumps/dropoffs, trees, ditches, larke square edge dropoffs, etc. I used to race MX several years ago until I basically got burnt out. I would much rather maintain an MX bike. Easier and cheaper.
