Oil Change for Recon ES
#2
Do not use "Energy Conserving" rated oil. Your owners manual states what you should or shouldn't use.
As far as the brand, I have used the Honda brands but now buy the Val. 10w 40 4-stroke at my local auto parts store.

I think I told you what I use a couple of days ago through a personal message, but it if you want to get a varity of info on any forum about oil and lets say when you hit on the honda forum you will see right above all the topic's:
Search Category: [ ADVANCED ] ____________Search,
Put oil in the blank area and hit search and get more confused on this subject.
I just keep records and change it often.

Not all oils are compatible with your bikes centrifugal clutch! Note that your owners manual recommends Honda GN4 (dino oil) only, but NOT Honda HP4, which is their dino/synth blend. I run GN4 in all my autoclutch bikes. It is good oil and not all that expensive. I don't know what Valvoline is, but if it is synth, you may want to skip it.
I never can understand why people can spend thousands of dollars on a bike, then whine about spending a buck more on a bottle of oil......

Your exactly right Raptory! I've never seen such a wide variety of responses in searching through oil related questions. Is there any topic that could possibly spring off more debate? I've talked to people who have used auto oil on there quads for over 10 years and say it still runs great; not that I think that's a good idea. You hit it dead on the head, I'm more confused now than when I started...lol!
