Default what gas should i use?

i have a 440ex with a 12.5 to 1 piston and i was wondering what gas would be good for the machine and the wallet. i know that 110 is probably the best thing i can run in it, but can i get away with a mix? i have heard that it is ok to run 91 and an octane booster, but that sounds kind of shady.

There are a few guys in my riding group with that same setup.

All run BP 93 pump gas in theirs with no problems. No octane additives either.

dont waste your money on a octane booster. Those bottles are crap.

steven is right.

Alot of guys look at the bottle and it says "addes 5 points to your octane rating".

That is true, but the misconception comes from not understanding what it means.........If you are running 93 octane and add booster giving you 5 additional points, you aren't going to get a 98 octane rating.........instead, you will have a 93.5 rating.

The carbon strand in fuel is what gives you a particular rating. A bottle of nothing can help it because it is chemically added during refinary. 93 octane fuel is 93 octane fuel.....period

Amazing how one decimal place breaks the hearts of some guys I used to know who ran that stuff and talked about all those big horsepower gains with it........LOL

personally i would run a mix. sparks told me that around a true 10.5:1 is the highest you should go on pump gas.

up here in old utah all we have is 91 octane, i guess it would be the same though considering the o2 diff in the air. but now i have another question, upon checking the price of 110 oct LEADED gas, the guy told me that i should deffinatly not run leaded gas in my machine. i didn't think it mattered. but thats why im asking.

forget the octane boosters. they pretty much junk in my opinion. i think the guy your getting the info from is on crack. the leaded gas is excellent. it will help the bike run cooler if anything. tough on the environment, but that may not be a concern for some. there is no way in heck i would put in pump fuel with that kind of compression. i would do a mix and see how it runs. i would also run it straight and see if it runs better or not. if not and your not getting any detonation or pinging problems, i would premix it with pump fuel.
