I guess my '87 250r ended up being a '89, but the VIN on the engine reads TB06E-8006250. Can someone look that up for me? How else do I tell if I have a '89 engine, ATC engine or a early TRX engine? Thanks.

 

First of all, something in your Engine VIN isn't quite right........

TB06E are ATC engines and TE06E and TE12E are TRX engines

BUT....

The "8" starting off the last part of that number states it as being an 88-89 TRX engine......The "0" after the "8" can't be right at all.

BUT....

The 88-89 TRX engines used TE12E


Check your numbers again. Sometimes crud makes a number or letter appear to be something else.

 

OK.....I'm going night-night soon, so here are the breakdowns......just find your number sequence.

1985 ATC250R....TB06E-2300003 and up
1986 ATC250R....TB06E-2400001 and up

1986 TRX250R....TE12E-1000001 and up
1987 TRX250R....TE12E-8000001 and up
1988 TRX250R....TE06E-8100001 and up
1989 TRX250R....TE06E-8200001 and up


If you have an R engine, it has to fall into one of the above

 

I've double checked this and thats the number, maybe its a '87 ATC motor? I'll tripple check it and see whats up.

I'm temped to take off the right side cover and see if it is alteast a '89 motor with the needle bearing clutch pusher.

 

Its an 89 a friend looked at them and said it was he works at the honda shop

Your friend either doesn't have any idea about Honda ATVs or didn't look at the numbers right.

ALL Honda 4 Wheeled ATVs have engine numbers beginning with TE.........there are none that start with TB

The important part of that number you have that isn't adding up is the beginning letters and the begining sequence number.

 

I have a picture of the vin but don't see how to post pictures. May be an 87 atc 250r motor.
