Back in may 00' I bought a 00' scrambler 500. Since my purchase and 12 rides later I've had a loose front hub, a cracked tranny, a torn seat cover due to it rubbing on the rear fender, and a 2nd cracked tranny. I'm not here to get the I told you so's. I'm here because I wish I bought a 400ex and hope this may help someone in the future make the right decision. I got caught up in all the reverse crap and 4wd. Although the reverse and 4wd are nice, I definetley could live without them. I believe I bought the biggest lemon in New England and the reliabilty is great if you plan on riding no further than your driveway. I'm going to take a beating money wise, but I may be in this forum more often next year with hopefully a new Honda. Take a jonder over to the Polaris forum and check out my posts and the crap I've been dealing with, if you ever thought of a purchasing a scrambler 500, hit your head against the wall 10 times and stick a broom stick up your **** without any grease and you might feel what I'm feeling right now about the *******I'm getting from Polaris.

Craig88, no "told you so" here! Sounds like you've had more than your share of grief through no fault of your own. Your misfortune could happen to anyone. Here's hoping you work things out to your satisfaction with your dealer/manufacturer, and wind up with a quad you like and enjoy, regardless of make and model.

Honda sticks with one thing only??
Hmmmm..... cars, motorcycles , generators, lawnmowers.
One thing only? I don't think so.
I will say that whatever they do build, they build very well.
I think that Polaris also makes a good product, they may not be on par with Honda as far as quality goes, but they by no means build junk.
I don't blame Craig for being upset with Polaris, under his circumstances I would feel the same way.
I just know too many people that own Polaris products (ATV's, watercraft, snowmobiles) and are very happy with their performance and quality to write off Polaris as being junk.
BTW - I own a Yamaha.

OUch, It does sound that way. Maybe you can get fixed enough & sell it to someone. You will take a beating at the dealer. This past year I traded my 10 month old watercraft in on quads & lost $2500. One note up here in the North West they have a hard time selling watercraft.
Try Honda hopefully you will have better luck.

I am sorry for your problems, but you can get a lemon made by any of the manufacturers. I do agree that Polaris has more troubles than most.
Enjoy actually riding your new bike.

Just because you got a lemon is no reason to diss polaris.
A lot of people get lemons. I know people with almost every type of ATV and they've had trouble with it.
It's people like you that give people a bad image of polaris.
I've had horrible luck with every ATV i've owned. My blaster blew up twice(I don't go around saying they are junk) My Trailblazers case cracked(chain) and my 300EX has a lot of wiring problems(any company that would wire them like this deserves to be shot)
The only ATV that never broke was my 87 TRX250! I totally swamped that thing twice. It started right up

Craig88,
Understand the frustration and the pain you are experiencing. However, I have to agree with the previous posters when they say that it could happen to a machine from any manufacturer.
A quick scan of the topics here or in the other brand areas will show new machines with smoking engines, not running right, steering problems, overheating, bearing failures, poor performance out of the box, and on and on. It is not limited to Polaris.
The particular problem you are having is obviously specific to your machine from the responses you are getting from the other Polaris guys. They are not writing in and saying that happened to them and here was the solution.
Give Polaris and your dealer a fair chance to find the problem. Sell it if you want, but please don't slam Polaris as being all bad.
There are a lot of excellent, reliable Polaris machines out there. We have a '97, 2-98's and a '99 Sportsman in our group. They have all been flawless other than routine maintenance. My older Honda is also an excellent machine, but it is not without problems.
I was very pleased to see the well balanced responses to this thread. This is the way it should be.
Good luck with the machine.

Hey man it's not a big jump when they're using basicly the same engine design. They make some bad *** waverunners and they have some damn nice quads, people just catch a bad seed from the factory every now and then and if his tranny went out again after it went out the first time it is either getting misused or the place he got it fixed at has some real monkeys working there.
