breaking in the motor
This topic is about a controversial as oil. But I subscrib to the link that reconranger posted. I break every engine I own in hard. I don't beat on them, and I don't get them baking hot either.
And to the people that don't break in an engine hard, I have a question for you. Why not? What are you afraid of?

breaking in the motor
I usually burn through two tanks of fuel before pinning it and hiding hard. Had good results with my CBR600, the Kawi 220 bayou (back in the day), my old Suzy GS450L (way back in the day) , the Honda 185 twinstar (way way back in the day) and with every single enduro I ever owned. I also abide to the old rules: machine rode hard from early days on runs hard through it's lifetime. Now if I could just sell the family truckster for a couple of 400 ex's! ( or dare I say it..Shees??!!)

Moto man knows what he's talking about. Thats why my stock raptor would tear up my cousins. They came off the same truck, consecutive serial numbers. Switch riders and mine was still faster. Make sure you warm it up first, thats crucial.
If you just let the darn thing put around you wont have enough force to seat the rings and they will allow a lot of blow by.

well it all just what people want to do, i'll continue to break mine in hard, these things are for fun to me and if the rings go that just part of the game that makes me smile. one thing i do agree with is start the engine and run it at idle until the engine is warm and shut it off, do this several times and then let it rip.
