somebody must have upgraded to 450r fr 400ex?

I upgraded from a z400 to a 450r. It is worth it. It is not just a 400ex with a hopped up motor. It is a completely different bike. The suspension, frame, everything is different and better. Fully adjustable showie shocks, powerfull motor, especially after a pipe and intake. I have several buddies that have 400 ex's and they are not even close to the 450r.

I did, the 450R is better in EVERy way, faster, better suspension, lighter, water cooled, ect.
Do you know how to use the search feature?
If you click on the search button, you can enter 450R in the search, it will bring up about 100 threads about the 450R. I bet you can find what you are looking for there. If not feel free to ask.

My friend has a 450r, stock, the difference is huge. He let me have a fair amount of seat time, enough to get a really good impression. The throttle response is very fast, the engine pulls way harder than my ex does. The seat feels good, not so soft, but no so HARD like the yfz. It is true that it is a little bit taller than a 400ex is, but it is minor and to me doesn't make it feel tippy. It handles really well, kind of like the 400ex, but as for jumps or anything like that, in small jumps where my 400ex would bottom the 450r soaks it up like you never even hit the ground yet. If you have a problem with kicking it over, well, you shouldn't. It will start faster than my ex does with electric start on a cold day. One or two kicks is all it takes. On the trails it could use a 13 tooth sprocket, but I found it works fine, with the exception that you feather the clutch often. The 400ex is much better for tight trails. I plan to pick one up ASAP because I realy like it, and is a big step up from a 400ex.
Man, I wrote a lot, sorry!

I would pick the 400 for tighter trails, and the 450 for more open trails and desert. The 400 will lug down for slow more technical riding, where the 450 likes to rev.

The 400ex feels short and fat compared to the 450r, or the 450 is tall and thin, either way the difference is huge. The 450r motor really makes it shine. I disagree that the 400ex is better in tight woods, but you must make the sprocket change to a 13 tooth for the 450 to do well. The 450 will let you run harder longer without beating you up. The kick start does work very good. I have raced serveral friends on z400's from a dead engine start, and they never get more than a front tire in the lead before I can shift into 2nd and walk away.
But either quad in the right hands can be very tough to keep up with in the woods.

I have both and plan to keep both. They are both awsome quads but have different purposes.

Agree with all. too hard to explain all the differences - but i did go from 400ex to the 'R' - and simply put...
THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE - All of them better, faster, nicer, smoother, quicker, newer, and much much more fun !
No Comparison. Unless you're in your 60's +, the 400 is just not even an option anymore. Was a nice bike for years, but HONDA has retired iit and gave birth to this 'Pearl' !
Love team Red.

i have a 400 and one of my friends got the 450 so i took it for a spin, the 400 wins the starting hands down. the 450 took over from there not that i was thinking i had a bad quad in the 400, but then it does have a 440 kit in it so the power difference was smaller.
