Rubicon - What Tires to get.
#1
I'm looking for tires for my Rubicon, i'm considering going with the ATR's and type 5 series wheels. Howver I've heard that the tire and wheel combo are wider than the stock tires, is it enough to be annoying? I'm also curious if the steering get harder with the wider tire? Or should I keep it simple and just get the Carlisle Trail Wolf put on my stock rim. I'm not a big mud rider, most of the time I ride in Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Arkansas, I've been to Moab twice and I'll be going in about 2 weeks again so I'm looking to get tires pretty quick any help wouldbe appreciated, thanks.

I have 26" Mudlites on ITP C series wheels. They stick out farther than the stock tires and wheels. The front tires will definitely throw mud on you if don't go slow through it. Other than that, they are great. I didn't notice any difference in the steering.

On those C series wheels can you still have the red plug for checking and adjusting the breaks? That is kind of important to me because I get in water and mud alot and was wandering if you had to do w/ out it to run those rims. Thanks for the imput.

You should be able to get different offsets on your wheels to keep them as close to stock width as possible. Your wheel dealer should have all that info. The new Type 5 C series only has 4 holes. You should still be able to reach the red plug with those. I could be wrong though.

We have 25" Mud Runners on our Rubicon. They now have 3000 miles on them. We don't "mud" our ATV. We do see snow in the winter and mud in the spring time.
They are not "mud aggressive" any more. They will probably last another 1000 miles of summer riding. They should probably be replaced now though.
We are 100% satisfied and will probably replace them with another set.

I have a friend with 26inch 589's on a 03 Rancher, and loves them. I have another friend with 26inch Mudlites on a 04 Rancher AT. He loves the tires, but will probably replace them with something smaller b/c his AT lacks the power to pull them very good. As far as the tires though, he really likes them. The Mudlites would probable be your best bet.
