350x? Or stay with 300EX
#1
I was thinking about going to a 350X motor. I have a chance to trade my 300EX motor in on one. Even.
Is it worth the lose of reverse and electric start to get more power?
What is the topend like on a 350x/300EX quad.?
How much faster than a 300EX?
Or would i be better off to take and mod my 300EX motor?
Thanks for the help.

Agreed. I often wonder why, when the subject of which bike to buy comes up, these folks continuously say that they love their 300s and would never trade their 300EX's in on 400s, then turn around looking for 400EX power and handling.
You'll spend more money on a 300EX trying to get it to the 400EX power level than a 400EX would have cost you in the first place.... Then you still have a 300EX, with 300EX suspension, size, and value when you go to sell it (probably less, most people are afraid of modified bikes). You also get a modified engine that is more loud and less reliable than stock.

and a 300ex with a 350X motor does go as fast as a 400ex i know some wont agree with me but i dont care it is at least VERY close a 350X motor has double the horsepower as a 300ex motor and just as relible sounds good to me and who needs reverse anyway?
i'll do the conversion some day to my 250X....

I love the 300ex. (and do you say it E-X or X; i say e-x.) Well, I wouldn't give up reverse. Thats why I didn't get the 400ex, reverse is important for trail riding. The 350 motor forces you to give that up. And I also think that reliability is definitely a question if your not skilled at maintaining this engine, but thats just me. You could bore it 50cc's and redo everything, port polish, etc for 1150. It can definitely burn other quads.
One other thing, I have to point out. Since when did the 300ex become a bad quad? Ever since the 400ex came out, a great quad as the 300ex, has become CRAPPY?!? Where I RIDE no reverse means that you'll arms will get really big by lifting those 400 lb 400ex's and Banshees ;-).

I used to have a 350x and that thing was bbbaaaddd! but now I love my 300ex. the 350x motor stock or with little mods is totally reliable. I saw an ad in dirt wheels for electric start kits for 250r, and 350x motors. they were about $250. I saw a older dude at the dunes last weekend ridin a 250r with an electric start kit, it looked like it was sweet. 6 speed tranny, top end probably around 60-65 maybe more. you would smoke warriors like cheap cigars. I say if the motor you can get is in good shape, and you got the skills, time and funds to do the swap, go for it.
