250X same as 300EX?
#2
Everything from the cylinder on up is the same, but the piston is not.
The bottom end has a few pieces that swap out, but not very many.
The 300EXs bigger displacement is from a longer stroke of the crankshaft and not cylinder size. The cylinders have the same bore and can be swapped, but the 300EXs piston has it's wristpin location further up on the piston skirt.
As far as engine swapping as a whole, the two will bolt into each other's frames, but you will need the wiring that goes along with each engine along with the proper CDI box, and regulator rectifier.
What parts is it that you are looking for?

It's a give and take situation. Actually, all that I have ever seen in stock trim are pretty close...usually depending on the rider.
The 250X has a bit less displacement, but is also lighter. [no battery, starter, and other electricals]
The 300EX has a bit more torque with the longer stroke engine but has the extra weight to carry around as well.
Like I said, it's a give and take.
It really comes down to wheter or not you can deal with a kick starter or not. Both can be modified as far as your pocket book will allow.

For MX, either would be a good choice, but for hare scramble races the 300EX would be my pick hands down.
Thoses races begin with dead engine starts plus you are always likely to stall the engine a few times on a tight track if you are just starting out. That electric starter will become your best friend.
If you plan to get into MX seriously for a long period of time, I would highly recommend you start on a bigger quad unless your local track has a small bore class.
For HareScrambles, I have seen good riders on 300EX absolutely destroy beginning and average riders on much larger quads.
Jeremy Benson, the points leader of the SportClass in GNCC passed a many YFZ and 450Rs this past weekend.
It depends on what type of racing you want to do and if MX, the classes in your area.

I dont want to be another person on the block with yet another 400EX. I dont have the budget for anything above the 300EX either. I want to have a really rare and custom 300EX or 250X that would make other people impressed when they see it coming. I want to beable to run with 400's just not have one. MX is mainly the genre that I want to get into. Thanks
