Questions on mods for 300ex
#1
What kind of carb do 300ex's have what is stock main jet and what should I rejet to with a K&N and FMF megamax 2. I was thinking of getting maxxis suretracks would 25 inchers look dumb on a 300ex with these mods and a 14 tooth front sproket how fast could I go. Would it feel overgeared just wondering I would like the mudding ability of 25 inch tires.

my '92 250x has a keihin QB01B, carby i think.....stock main jet is #122, i recently put a #128 in to try it out with a uni filter.....only rode it for an hour (friend hit tree, broke wrist)......so i have really got round to play with it, read the plug properly, i have a supertrap on her too, and a larger head pipe
.....tires......25inch tires are usually 12 inches wide......therefore rubbing on exhaust pipe
22inchs work fine....the surtrak was a good mud tire anyway...better than those stockers.... they are 2ply....therefore lighter, but doesn't like rocks as much as a 4ply or 6ply.....but i never had a flat...ever.....i have maxxis alltraks currently.....never had a flat in them either......25inch tires and 14tooth front sprocket would make it high geared but, you would loose ya bottom end......for the mud.....i would recommend 13 tooth for lots of tight riding and mud......14tooth in the faster riding condition......bigger is often not better
just depends on the sitution.....ie physical (environment you ride in), and your motorbikes current state (power, torque etc)....often on the rides i go on i wonder why i have a 14 tooth on the front......cause i ain't finding top gear!!!!.....whats the point of having top if ya can't use it!.......ideally the bike needs a 6th gear.....to give a broader speed range (more at the top and at the bottom)......but the 300ex ain't like that...bugger
go hard

haha.....i tell a lie, the surtraks were on my last bike, all round, she was a honda3004x4.......we used on a dairy operation, therefore she got a lot of road work, concrete and other hard surfaces work.......and the wore really really well.....i brought the alltraks when i got my new bike because i was that impressed with the sur traks, the alltraks wear well to, though i wouldn't mind trying some bearclaws next time (they are 4ply)....i have a question for you......what front tires do you have.....can you recommend any?.....i was thinking of getting some maxxis fronts.....anyone know what they are like
the carb......um....i didn't play with the primary jet, i just screwed the the main jet into the needle jet and away i went
....didn't touch any thing else!
i haven't had time to play with it......the riding i did it went well, not major probs,....tried it with out the airbox lid.....she didn't run right so i put it back on......
hey a good idea is to search the forums, theres a lot of good info on this site.....ya just gotta find it

Pudding I use fast trecker fronts but don't like them unless you are going to ride agressive I think they look cool and grab okay in corners on hard pack but in soft loomy corners they seem to float and push excessively. With there flat profile stearing effort if harder. They also seem to be wearing out quicker than I would like. Half tread in 6 months with moderate riding. well thats not to bad but I think for casual riding a more rounded profile tire would be better.
