HELP!! I have just purchased an '85 350X in excellent condition. The thing is, it will start and idle only on full choke, but as soon as you try to rev the motor or to reduce the amount of choke, the bike dies. I have pulled the carb off and cleaned everything (the trike sat under a tarp, untouched for over a year), but I believe that the jets are set incorrectly. If anyone can give me jet settings for the stock 85 I would appreciate it greatly. I owned this same trike new back in 85 and when I saw the chance to own it again some 18 years after I sold it, I jumped at the chance. I just want to ride it and need this forum's help with the jets.

Check your airbox to make sure a varmint wasn't in there making a mess. I don't know the stock jets, but I got a feeling your carb isn't clean yet. Maybe you should double check it?

 

That's good advice, but one of the first things I did with this wheeler was to clean the airbox and replace the surprisingly clean UNI filter with a new K&N. So, I know the airbox is clean. My friend and I completely dismantled the carb and cleaned each jet and all else - trying, of course to replace the jets in their original(?) position. We just wonder if the jets were put back correctly by us or that they were correct to begin with.

I also think it depended on altittude also.
