K&N FOR 400 QUESTION
#1
I just installed a power kit on my 400. My question, questions are.
1. Does the K&N filter supposed to go up inside
the intake boot off of the airbox? If so is it
supposed to move around that much before the
clamp is tightened.
2. When jetting I read the instructions and
replaced my needle with the new needle, and installed a 165 main jet. I am below 3000 ft, so this is what it said to do. My question is this
when it says the stage(2) with exhaust and airbox lid off, can I run the stage(2) without a pipe?
I also don't want to run without my airbox lid off because I cross alot of water and mud while racing. I can modify it though to run with more air, but keep out the water. Which one should I run stage(1) or stage(2) I do not have a pipe yet.

I run lib off and stock pipe. This is Stage 2 with the 165. I am also below 3000 feet. If you run lid on, you need to run Stage 1 because you won't have quite as much air coming in. My set up works great. I don't see much water at all. Just sand.

HUH????
O OK ya the sleeve of the K&N goes inside the intake boot clamp. And it does not move around that much. When you clamp it down it will stay. I also recommend putting some silicone on the bottom of the airbox where the lip is for the air filter to rest on... It will eat a hole in your outerware or rub away the chrome on the K&N. As for stage 1 stage 2 you have to play with your carb. Just because you go a new air filter you did not have to rejet. you are not pulling that much more air in because you cannot force air out your stock pipe. Read The dirt wheels like 3 months ago about carb etique. But it is ok. Just check your plug after awhile to see if you are running rich. Well you will know you are running rich when you try to hit 3/4 to full throttle (maybe) I run a stage 2 below 3000 feet but it says run a 170 ERRRR you have to take in account how hot it is out side also. I live in Las Vegas so I run a 165 anything over 85/90 degree's (I try not to ride when its 115) So there you go.. Play with it
