it says that the 660 is detuned and would spank a 450 if properly modified, and for someone who doesnt even own a raptor shouldnt open his mouth

You saying stuff like that proves exactly what you know.......nothing.

Your post was just as meaningless as his when you don't backup your point. If you would provide examples on how the Raptor is a better quad then that would be different.

Now that this thread has ALMOST hit rock bottom, I'll put in my $.02...

Raptor
I wanted a Raptor since they first came out. They, in IMHO, are great quads. However, they have some reliability issues, which I believe have been corrected since the first model year. You can almost unlimitedly mod them, and turn them into monsters.

For slow to moderate speed, they would be great trail machines. For FAST trails, I believe they would suck. They have too much power for their stock suspension geometry. Get longer A-Arms, swing arm, and new shocks that can handle the increased leverage of the longer componants and I think you would have the ultimate trail quad...but why buy a $6000 quad, and have to invest another $1500 into it, just to make it do what you want it to do?

TRX450R
Just bought one of these and I love it. However, most of my riding is in the desert and dunes...and it feels like it was designed for my kind of riding...which it kind of was. It won the Baja 1000 in it's first year of production.

Since changing the front sprocket, I have only one complaint, and that is the cheezy bumper and grab bar. I broke my tail light and muffler cap after flipping it backwards, and the grab bar taco'd. Other than that, it's a SWEET quad. For slow trails, you would have to not only gear down the front sprocket, but gear up the rear. Even with the 13 tooth sprocket up front, it IDLES at about 10 mph.

Z400, KFX400, or DVX400
From my experience, and what I've read about, is THE BEST trail quad. If I was doing mostly trail riding, this is the quad I would buy. It has all of the best parts of the Raptor (except the HUGE engine), and fixes all of the things about it that need improvement. The A-arms and swing arm are more appropriate for its height and power. It's 25 pounds lighter than the Raptor. AND, it still has reverse.

I agree with the post that said that you should go ride each of them and make your own decision, but unfortunately, most people don't have that luxury (like myself). I had to base my decision on what I read on this forum, in magazines, and ultimately the specifications of each model that I was considering. Based on the kind of riding that I do, I am VERY impressed with my 450R. If I was going to be doing trail riding however...I would have gotten the Z400, hands down.

u know what im getting real sick of stupid @$$ replys on raptors, why dont u just quit while ur ahead? i think someone is kinda p'd off that they kept getting their @$$ handed to them in drags or something, and any modded raptor would spank either of those hondas in trails
Umm I had a raptor. I now have a 450r. Raptors are pieces of ****. The 450r is faster, handles a million times better, is more reliable, and is lighter. But theres no reverse, or elec start. A 13t sprocked will fix the gearing on the 450r and you will be way happier with it.

My 450r with exhaust absolutly kills my roomates 03 Raptor w/ exhaust in every area becides dragging backwards. I should have raced his raptor while my bike was stock. It would have been a close race. But with both having exhaust, its not even close. My 450r usually takes a 3 quad length lead right away and the raptor can never catch up.

2001 Raptors had tranny problems...not any more. Any other ongoing problems I would like to hear about with some credible information to back it up as I am not aware of any.
Raptors are tippy, yes it's true. Just sit on one at your local dealer and you can tell right away they feel different than other sport quads. I knew that when I bought mine but for my type of riding (desert) I am able to adjust.
OK I'll admit it, I don't like pushing my quad or kicking it, and hence the electric start and reverse. It's a perk that means a lot to me but maybe not so much to others.

I'm sure you know not to trust anyone who says either machine is an absolute piece of crap...they are idiots.

For what's it worth, reconranger has always posted intelligently and honestly and seems to have been around the block more than a few times. I'm not taking anything away from anyone else here, but I like to give credit where credit is due. Good luck with your decision.

yamaha4eva and yamaha660r so I dont know nothing hu. Why does this guy say exactly what I said and HE OWNS ONE. JUST BECAUSE YOUR BIKE IS A PIECE OF CRAP AND YOU CANT ARRORD A NEW ONE YOU DONT HAVE TO TAKE IT OUT ON ME. and If you read any post on yamaha before the yzf came out all peaple would talk about was there craptors beaking down. why was there a recall? Why is it that 90% of raptor owners hate raptors. Yea a raptor might be faster than a 450 when you mod it duh I was saying stock for stock. buck for buck the 450 is a better bike. dont be a hater because I still own a 2-stroke I know alot about quads. Riznaptor had it right a raptor is faster than a 450 when it comes to reverse.

Bansheesmoker- Hmm, this is interesting.....I would like to see where you got this little nugget of information......oh, wait I know where you got it you pulled it out of your a$$. Dont come on here posting stupid statements that you have no way of backing up, you just make yourself look like a biased ignorant fool.

And for the record I like both quads, both have their pros and cons. Decide what type of riding you will be doing and test drive both and then make a INFORMED decision for yourself, dont go by an emotional response that some yahoo posts on a forum. Your mind is like a parachute if its not open it does you no good, unfortunately we have a lot of people falling to their death around here

LMAO. Your right...I can't "ARRORD" a new quad, but if I feel like it, I can "AFFORD" a new quad. But why would I, have you looked at my pic's. I believe I have all I need in that Raptor. And what does you having a two stroke have anything to do with you knowing a lot about quads? Does owning a two stroke automatically make you know everything about four strokes, or quads in general?

And if you knew half as much as you claim, then you wouldn't know the stock set up on a YFZ is not as detuned as the stock set up of a Raptor. Compare the spec's and you'll see where the YFZ get's it's quickness from. Now notice I didn't bring the 450R into that, because it's not as quick as a YFZ, and probaly never will be. So do I believe a punk kid like you for one minute that your watching a piped 450R beat a piped Raptor...no.
