As far as quality control when manufacturing an ATV, I'd say Honda. Yamaha, Sizuki, Kawasaki are probably second. Arctic Cat, Polaris, Bombardier are probably last. But this is with a very small build tolerance now adays. All of them are very good quality, but the fit and finish on the "Jap" machines is a bit better. Most of the "Jap" bikes are built in the U.S. now anyway so I'd attribute this to the "Jap" machines having a higher assembly budget than the others. All machines from Polaris to Honda are very reliable. The fit and finish on a Honda is slightly better than the others(very slightly).

Best ATV overall, well that's another story. It depends on what you're looking for. Polaris makes the best machine if you want a rugged machine that is at home on very rugged terrain and can also cruise trails in comfort(it's very heavy for good utility work). Honda builds basic quads for people that think simple is better(the hydrolic tranny is less complex than most think). Arctic Cat is along the lines of the Polaris but not as refined. Bombardier is low on the performance side but big on the utility side(very utility minded). Suzuki is just now getting back into the swing of things after a long layoff, their products get better and better every year and they make some fine machines that magazines seem to love. Kawasaki is following along the same line as Suzuki but also making a name for itself in a big way with innovative products. Yamaha builds a good mix of ATVs and never leaves out a niche, good quality and even better performance from these machines.

My vote for best ATV is a tie between the Polaris Scrambler 500 4x4 and the Suzuki LTZ400. The reason I picked these machines is because they dominate the classes they were intended for.

You can't get a performance 4x4 with the speed, handeling, or sportiness of a Scrambler anywhere else. The Scrambler has been left unchallenged in this category for years and yet has the ability to spill over into other classes. This trait alone makes the Scrambler one of the 2 best ATVs you can buy.

The Suzuki LTZ400 is the complete package for trail riders and wanna-be racers. The combination of speed and handeling along with a wide range of aftermarket parts available makes the LTZ the quad for racers and weekend warriors alike.
