Default Motor ticks

Hey, I have a 1984 200S and when I go for a long ride and shut off the bike the motor ticks for 5 min or more. What is this??

Im not exactly sure what it is, may be your hot oil dripping off your crankshaft or something, but its nothing to worry about, my 450R does it.

I would say that it is the metal cooling down!

Do you mean tick as the motor is still running or ping as metal cooling down, Like alot of people cars do?

bump, would like to know about this. My 84 does tick while running after I did a valve clearance check adjustment. I had it at TDC when did adjustmentand piston was at the compression stroke. I don't know if I should just keep riding it and forget it or what. I had a problem keeping the piston at TDC when doing the adjustment. Is there a way I can keep the flywheel from moving when I am tweaking the valves. Because of that I think the valves could be adjusted much more accurate and this may fix the problem. If the clearance is off a little will this make it tick like that?

The clearance being off will make it tick.

If you had it TDC between exhaust and intake stroke when you adjusted it, instead of TDC between compression and power stroke, you could have ended up with way excessive valve clearance.

As far as ticking after you shut it off, that is pretty normal.

That was it for me. You need to take the starter off and hold the flywheel to get it at TDC to do the adjustment.
