Many of us in this form own one. here are my tips:
1. do not over titen the rear axle bolts, they will strip out.
2. dont let the chain get so loose that it clanks, mine poped off and got jammed in the front sprocket and broke the engine case. (JB weld fixed nicly)
3. keep fresh oil in it, some develop a nasty clank when warming up (seems to be harmless)

1)JRM is totally right on the chain thing...never let it clink and clang, always have it tight...because 1 time I was riding along a trail and it was pretty loose and it suddenly skipped like 2 teeth and made them chip off.

2)do any repairs that you can do by yourself...never take it to a dealer...I did and the bill came to $800!! just for new chain and sprockets, new oil change, and axle bearings. that came to $400 the other $400 was LABOUR!!!

3)If your brakes work now don't plan on having them forever...they are bound to break sometime so make sure their always maintained and cleaned in side the drums.

So the biggest problem would be keeping the chain tight....I have 2 bolt holes stripped and another bold can't come out, and only 1 still works fine.
(the bolts that are the 17mm or 11/16)

Did you just buy the 200sx???

Well here's a picture of mine (just copy and paste)

Most people have the red fenders but I have the white fenders and mines the 87 model...theirs not much of a difference betweeen the '86 and '87 model just the fenders.

You need to make sure your chain is tight and that the axle bolts are tight but don't tighten them down to much. You should check every ride. As long as you keep the chain and good oil in it it will run for a long time. I have lots of pictures of mine on my page

Just go to the picture section then trx200sx pictures.

00 trx400ex - ac mudscreen front bumper, nacs headlight covers
86 trx200sx - powersport bandit 20 in rear tires

these guys are right...

my experiences with them is.....if you look after it, it will look after you........that goes for anything

.......my one was my first ATV (first one i owned anyway).......they went well........pretty good in the mud (light).....i managed to destroy a set of front wheel bearings.....if i better looked after it i might not have!.....but the front wheel bearings are really cheap anyway

they handle ok....quick little bikes..but only have 3.1inches of travel.......so you can get alot of bounce from the tires!.....

motor......i had a wiseco piston and the motor was on its secon bore out.....0.40 over or something.....and the little bugger was still going strong......we never touched the bottom end

the wiseco piston was 11:1 compression....which was to high for std fuel....that was a hassle for me

if you wanna make it go faster.....you can do the usual, port and polish, bigger pipe (right to the head), uni filter, and large main jet.....i recommend you try and leave the air box lid on, because they are only a small bike, another tip for speed is to learn about you bike......regularly check bearings, repack with grease, check the drums, clean them, put grease on the seals, check you tire pressures, and you should only need 2 ply tires......this keeps the weight down, and keeps it lively in the mud....keeping those wheels clearing/cleaning.....alloys?

ride hard!

Pudding,
Did you ever have to replace gears??...that's what I'm worried about, my friend has the 125 and he had to replace 3 gears allready.

And what about tightening the throttle cable?...I hear it can give you a bit more speed.

I've never had more than chain coming loose and poor front braking. On four trx200sx I have owned, currently two are in excellent runing condition except for one's plastic. These are battle tanks and I can put one about anywhere a 4x4 can go. These are and probably will be the best trail atv that you can get around so easily and holds up to the abuse.

I took the top of the thumb throttle off and found that if I adjusted the cable the throttle would go back another 1/4in.It does help. Also keep the clutch adjuster bolt tight.

You guys must have better tires than me because mine can't do anything in mud....it spins as soon as it hits mud deeper than the middle of the tires.
Usually I can lift it out
