Today i went to Victoria, Texas to Dale's Fun Center and man they have a selection there. I got a brand new 2003 400ex. Never been owned or ridden before. Its awsome, i got home and took it for a ride, not a hard one but just a lil putt around and just every once and a while give it some gas. Mant it has power, i am 14 yrs old and 80lbs. Really small, its awsome. But i cant wait till its broken in and i dont have to put around no more. Well i g2g ride so peace

Gearing the front down makes it slower but better acceleration. gearing up the front gives it higher top speed. Rear sprockets geared high makes makes you go slower but you also get a better low end power. Congrats with the 400ex and break it in the right way- run it real hard through the gears, then slow down and stop, do it again. Dont let people tell you to break it in being easy on it, it causes piston wear later on and robs it of full power once it is broken in. Read it from a professional mechanic somewhere on the internet.

Don't run the **** out of it to break it in. The guy on the net is correct that it will increase compression as far as seating the piston rings goes; however, he totally fails to mention anything about the bearings. This is more a process for people looking to race and rebuild, race and rebuild, race and rebuild. It is not for longevity.
The best thing you can do is ride it as a new owner would normally ride. The biggest thing is to only ride it for about 30 minutes and then let it totally cool down. Then ride it for another 30 minutes and let it totally cool down. Do not start it and stop riding before the engine has had a chance to totally warm up. 3 minute fun runs are a killer on a new engine. Don't start it to show a friend it runs if you don't have the time to ride it for 30-60 minutes.
