Default reducing weight on a 400ex

I was looking into the specs of the 450 and 400 and noticed the 450 is about 25lbs lighter. What did Honda do to reduce the weight of the 450?

Thanks in advance, Im sure I will have many more questions as this is our first set of quads

i think cannondales had all aluminum frames; the 450R just has an aluminum sub-frame, radiator (though the 400ex doesnt have one) and some other aluminum parts. the 450R engine is a light engine though for a four stroke.

Thats it, no battery, no starter engine, and a light engine. Changing the rims and axle will make no difference.

Just changing the stock exhast will drop you about 8 lbs on the 400ex.

Thanks for the replys,

I will be changing the pipe soon...... the battery is probably where most of the weight difference is.

Thanks again
