I my experience, which counts for more than ANYthing, Stock 400EX doesn't like a real aggresive paddle.
SKat Trak/Sand tires Unlimited are the BEST sand tires ever.
That is why all the big guys have them at the dunes.
As for Geckos - ditch'em they suck.
I have been seeing alot of Sand Stars around, they don't look or perform to bad. I have tried them all, and I prefer the Edge paddles (angle paddles like Sand Shark i think). The hualers are the best, but I like the angles for real sand riding. If you go fast in a straight line - hualers are a must on 9" blue labels, if trails are your thing - anysize angles on red lables are the way to go.

After researching, my buddy bought the fairly new Sand Stars. They performed pretty dang good. I even rode his quad and like the performance for what we do. Which is just about everything but race others.
Good Luck

dan250race who do you consider as the big guys. I think the big guys are the ones with fast bikes who almost always use haulers.

Haulers are great for duning. I can turn just as easy with the haulers as I can with any V paddle, but when you are on a hill will soft sliding sand, you'll be glad you have the haulers, and not the "V" paddles. Most experienced riders can perform fairly equaly on both, but beginners can really change their riding style between the types.

We had 5 stock, piped 400ex's at sand lake. After switching bikes/riders/tires all around the one with 20-10-8, 8 paddle haulers won the drag race every time. They are lighter then 20-10-10 haulers by almost half. It is the lighter weight that helps the relatively small HP of the stock 400ex.
