Default Does Honda shoot themself in the foot each year?

The other manufacturers are releasing their new products now in the beginning of Summer. This gives them more weather friendly months to sell their products. Honda waits until Sept. when it's starting to get cold. On the East coast it starts to get darn cold in Sept. until it thaws out in about March. Honda should do like the others and get a jump on the year. Some people won't buy a quad during the winter because they can't use it. (Unless it's for plowing snow.) Why buy a quad to have it sit in a shed someplace? Once everything thaws out Honda only has from around March till June when everyone else starts announcing their new models. This is more towards the customers that will buy any product and not just wait for Honda. Does Honda lose sales because of their timing?

Exactly....

And as pitiful as it sounds to me for them doing that, Honda has always remained the best selling brand.....Maybe their "way of doing things" are what really works.

Maybe the other guys should do what Honda does and not the other way around. Doesn't matter to me really, but it is something to ponder.

I've got a bone to pick with people who constantly rant and rave about how Honda sells their quads (nothing personal Coyotechaser, this is a general statement). Yes, we as the consumers hate the way Honda markets and makes changes to their machines as do I, but you must understand why they do guys, all Honda is concerned about is SELLING PRODUCTS. When you are the top-selling manufacturer out of all of them, you don't really need to change much do you? Why fix it if it ain't broke? The only way Honda will ever make major changes to products is when they see sales of a certain machine decrease significantly. From the "seller's" perspective, that's the way it SHOULD be done. So I guess what I mean is, we may hate the way Honda does things, I know I do, but they're at the top of the heap so they must be doing it right, even with "inferior" and "outdated" machines as some claim.

There are probably more riders in California, than most of the other states combined. Most people's bikes sit all summer because it is to hot to ride. The riding season (and selling season here!), starts when the deserts cool off, around Thanksgiving. The opposite of the riding season in the rest of the country. But, if you ride the (cool) mountains in the hot season, there is never an off-season!

I have heard some speculation that Honda benefits from waiting until the others are out, then they can size up the competition before releasing theirs.

Kodiac1, the only change made to the '05 Rincon is they added the option of black plastic and dropped yellow. The '05 Rincon's are already out. Saw a black one today at the local dealer. They got two in last week and the first one was pre-sold, and a guy was filling out the paperwork on the second when I was there. The dealer said he is expecting some changes on the Rubicon. He said Honda usually only holds off releasing the new model year machines this time of year if there are changes and they're not able to get '05 Rubicons yet. I'd like to see Trax-Loc and IRS added to the Rubicon, but I'm not holding my breath for either one.

Yamaha-Somebody posted the numbers a while back. I will try to find them, but Honda outsells everybody by a very large margin! In 02 they sold 70,000 Ranchers alone!
