Default Honda Recon problems...Help!!!

The other day, I tried to start up my recon and it didn't wanna start. I checked the battery connections, changed the spark plugs, adjusted the idling speed, cleaned the airbox out, etc and it still didn't wanna start. Does anyone have suggestions. Previous to this problem, the recon would stall frequnetly while I was riding it and when I would get in water, it would stall instantly. Does anybody have any ideas of what I should do. I don't feel like spending money to have it put in the shop for a 2 weeks.
Thanks

To run an engine needs good clean fuel, the proper mixture. A good spark at the right time, and good compression. Fuel, fire and compression. If it wont start one of the 3 is missing. Find a shop manual and go from there. If you cant find the problem then find some one who can help, or take it to the shop. Keep us posted and I am sure folks here will be as helpful as possible.

How deep was the water? Did water get into the exhaust, oil, gas, carb and or air filter?

Check for spark, by pulling the spark plug, putting the wire back on and holding the plug against the motor. Then crank it over. There should be a good strong blue spark. It not, try a new plug first.
Check for gas getting to the motor. Theres a drain at the bottom of the float bowl on the carb, open it up, and make sure that gas comes out. If it does, then most likely it will make it to the motor , too.
Let us know what you find.
