i have had my 400 in the garage sitting for about 2 weeks now, i dont understand why but when i try to start it, it never does. The starter is fine because i hear it trying, but it just wont turn over. The smell coming from the exhaust is very potent of gas, but i dont know how it could have flooded just sitting in the garage with the gas off...

do you know anything bout this?

When you say it wont turn over, do you mean it just wont fire, but does spin over with the starter?
First thing to do, is check for spark. Remove the spark plug, and reattach the wire to it. Hold the plug against the motor( to ground it) and spin it over. Is there spark?

 

yes, the starter will turn over but there is no fire to it. every now and then after many attempts to start it will kick once and then shut right off. the exhaust smells highly of gas, could it be an ignition problem?

 

It could be many things. First things first. We'll eliminate the easy stuff, before we go after the expensive fixes.
Have you got spark? If you have spark, then the ignition is probably good.
Have you done any modifications? air filter, exhaust system,cdi box? any new parts? any crashes or accidents before this started up? Was it acting funny before you shut it down last time?
But you gotta check for spark first, this will determine where you look next.

 

well, you guys were right as always lol.
the spark plug was BURNT to a crisp...whole thing was SOLID BLACK.
goin to the store tomoro to get a new one
