Default Speed sensor/Rancher

My speedo reads 0 at all speeds. When the RPM's get high i can't shift down unless i shut the key off and back on.
Ive taken all the plugs i can find apart and sprayed them with contack cleaner.
If i buy a speed sensor and thats not it,i will not get my money back. They are $100. Laber would most likely coast the same.
If any one knows how to test the speed sensor please let me know. Thanks

i know the exact problem your having... my friend had the same problem with his rancher, which i found and fixed for him. so, don't go do anything stupid like call a mechanic, b/c they can't figure it out either! go under the atv, and look just in back of the skid plate that protects the engine. there should be a rapped and protected wire that runs down over there, so look for it, and make sure you find it! one of those wires is probably cut, most likely the ground(green), b/c thats wat happened on my friends, but it could also be the red(positive) or black(negative), so check all of them for cuts, especially if there is a cut in the protective layer. if thats not the probem than check all the connections. the wire i'm refering to connects directly to the speed sesor which is on the rear driveshaft by the engine! this wire is the most common proble, and most easily missed, seeing as though the mechanics couldn't figure it out! well, i told u all i can, so just find that wire and reconnect and tape all the cut wires, and make sure u do a good job or it will happen again!

250xRkrider. It was the black wire! As soon as i got your reply i ran out and checked it out.Sure enough there was a brake in the casing around the wires.I pealed back the casing and found the black wire broke in half.
It's running great now! Thanks alot. You saved me alot of money.
