Does anyone know why?

It probably had something to do with all the lawsuits that Honda was fighting. People would get hurt and then look for a deep-pocket instead of taking responisibility for themselves. If you can't afford to get hurt, don't get on a quad, especially one that you're not ready for. Take responsibilty for yourself.

Re-releasing the 250R would be sweet, but I don't think Honda would sell that many of them. The sport/performance ATV market is very small compared to the Utility quad market, so even if their sport ATV sales doubled, it wouldn't be a huge increase in overall sales. Also, a factory 250R would probably barely outperform the 400EX, and most people (except the racers) would probably prefer the low-maintenance 'gas and go' 4-stroke over the higher-maintenance mixed-gas 2-stroke. :\
