Default air filter

Can anyone tell me how often i should clean the air filter on my atv? i am new to the atv scene, my atv is relatively new yet, has maybe 40 hours on it, should i be cleaning the air filter, mostly i ride in the woods and in the fields, my atv is a Honda 350 rancher, the bike seems to be running a bit hotter lately, was wondering if this could be because the motor isnt breathing as well as it should be?
any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks folks!

a dirty air filter isn't good, but it would only restrict air. this means your running a richer jetting which would make the bike run cooler than leaner jetting.

ur air filter should be checked on a fairly regular basis. and it should only be cleaned when it is dirty. u will know by looking at it.

Ya the stock foam filters are really good at filtering, but do start to be really restictive when dirty. I like to clean mine after several dusty rides, but I know people that leave it way longer and don't encounter problems. It is alway a good idea to clean it really good with solvent, wash and let dry right out, then oil even a stock foam filter, with some bel ray foam filter oil. It only makes it filter even better!!!
