Hi, I am a motocross racer and bent my stock axle on the bike during a pretty bad crash. I went to Kames and they had a lonestar axle for a 250r and a 400ex. Through visual comparision the R axle looks two inches longer. I know I will have to change hubs to R hubs but is that all I have to do. Thanks in advance.

I believe you will have to use a 250R sprocket and possibly brake hardware as well.

If you don't mind the stock width, I'd call Honda and order a stock axle, they are only about $70 and are very strong (flexible too, I believe that's the key). Definitely the most cost effective solution.

Stay away from Durablue, I have heard numerous complaints, and actually witnessed a brand new Eliminator break on Saturday, it was his 2nd. The bad thing was he didn't really land too badly, he was following me over an 82' double and came up a little short, not bad though. Snapped it right off, sprocket side, at the sprocket hub retaining clip.

Gabe,

How sure are you that I would have to change sprockets and brake hardware. I definatly want an extended axle but I will never by a durablue at all. I have seen way to many break and seems to always be on the sprocket side. Thanks for the input.

Gabe

I too have to ask are you sure of that?

I just installed a RPM 250r axle in a 99ex, Everything else is stock. The RPM is stock two inches wider than the stock ex axle, With deeper spline. And comes with one, And also one half- inch spacers. Adj- from +2 to +5 over stock ex.
Mine weights in at one pound over stock weight with the use of Dura-Blue Alum- hubs to try and save weight.

It's as strong as a bear- "And loving it"

Not positive, haven't done the swap & haven't seriously checked my EX against my R...

For some reason I was thinking that the sprockets were different as well as the splines for the brake hub. I may have been mistaken though...

Sounds like the RPM axle is the way to go for lots of extra width....
