Good post. My thought's are that the yfz is only slightly faster in the magazine test's because of how rediculously corked up the 450R is on both ends. By simply cutting the airbox lid the way the hrc one is cut, cutting the spark arrestor from the muffler (both rediculously easily done with a dremel) and going to a 180 main jet, power increases by AT LEAST 20%.
This is not a rumour or what I've heard, this is what I've done and it makes a HUGE difference. Going from a 118 main means around 35% more fuel is going into the motor and making much more power as a result......

I was a two wheeler until I got a 400EX, then I bought a 450R in February and I love it. The handling is excellent, power is smooth and consistent. It is a really good trail bike and loves to jump.
I have had mine in sand, trails and mud and it performs great in everything.
Very comfortable to ride all day without wearing yourself out.

A guy brought one to the Bedford Dirt drags last weekend. Pulled it off the truck and it started on the first kick. Sounded decent with the stock muffler, nice throaty rumble. I don't know if the had the HRC kit but he was running neck and neck with bolt-on YFZs and Raptors over 500 ft, I didn't see a tremendous difference in their times. It's a sharp looking quad and the guy seemed real happy with it. Although I haven't heard of them taking the MX track by storm, it seems like a nice quad for the other 99% of ATV riders.

Just got the new 2005 Trx 450 R today and it is great. I wasn't sure at first when i was riding it, i didnt think it was comparable to the 250r...but the more i ride it and everything it is great...everyone should be gettin this maching

Ahhhhh whats that mean....I'm so close to buying one and from what i hear, your first ride should put butterflys in your stomach and make you feel like you got the most badass quad out there..Not: 'i wasnt sure at first" ahh come on, your scaring me..
