Well, after riding cstark's 300 EX I am hooked! This winter I plan on tearing down the top end and replacing the cam. Does web cams do a good job? Also I will go with a Wiseco 10 to 1 piston. Then a new rev limiter. This really is not going to be a racer but just a good pit quad and fast woods quad. Also I think I will get rid of the DG pipe. Not enough power gain for the noise. I think either a Supertrapp or White Bros.

Definitely recommend having heads ported and polished to compliment new cam as well as valve spring kit.Tc racing has a lot of experience with the 250/300ex's and can give you a lot of ideas as what to do.

Hey Jason, what's up?

TC Racing has a kit for your EX that sells for $400 bucks. It is a Wiseco piston(10.5-1), TC high rev cam(core charge), valve springs, and CDI mods(you send in your CDI box, and they mod it).
This will really "wake-up" your stock motor. Add a pipe(which you already have) and you have a great setup.

Only 400 bucks! I could do that now then. Well not really the wife wont let me spend any money until we close on our house next week. How can I get in touch with TC racing. Do they have any catalogs I could get?
Thanks!
Jason

I will send you the contact info in an e-mail.

Remember.......You have too send your CDI box into them for mods. That means that you can not ride until you get it back(it could take a week or two). Also, when you recieve the TC parts. You have too send them your "stock" camshaft. That is what "core charge" means.
In reality, you are only getting a piston, new valve springs, "your own" modded CDI box back, and someone elses modded camshaft that they sent back via a "core charge".

Don't get me wrong. These parts will wake-up the motor. It's just too bad a guy didn't have the tools at home too modify that CDI and camshaft.

I did stuff alittle differently. I did not send my CDI in too get modded. I bought a whole new unit from Tom. I plug the "stock" unit back in when my girlfriend drives my quad. No need too let her blow the engine now.
I also paid extra too by a camshaft, without sending my unit in for a "core charge". I wanted all of my stock parts around, just incase I needed too get the machine back too stock form someday.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

CSTARK,

Something I don't undetstand. I am totally inexperienced in the modding of engines, so this is just to cushion my question in case it makes no sense.

You mentioned that you wanted to keep all your parts in case you needed to bring you quad back to factory specs.

I figurd once you changed the piston, you would have to bore the block. Does the piston (10.5:1) mentioned above not require a bore?

Thanks for the info.

Brian,

(10.5-1) is only the compression ratio of the piston. If your motor is fairly new, a higher compression piston can be installed without having too bore the cylinder walls. Only new gaskets are needed.

My motor can be put back into stock form with everything except the head work and valve job. Once that material is ground away, there is no getting it back.

Adding a high compression piston is a fairly safe and reliable mod that can be done too a motor. The more performance parts you add, the faster the motor is going too wear down. How often do you want too rebuild is the question?
