Even though I did not do this mod, I can tell you if you like playing around hills and going up things you shouldn't, the 400ex sucks for the right power... I even found 1st gear to high for some tasks like going up a hill with multi levels or roots and rocks...the bike would just bog to a stall...so I can see how the 14 tooth would have helped me!

I sold my 400ex and went out and got me another 300ex because it is more nimble in these situations...I considered a sprocket change but never did it...I really missed my reverse and just wanted my 300ex back...

hmmm.. well if you are good enough, you can have more fun on a 400 up hills...

ever hear of feathering the clutch???

I think the 400 is alot better at going up hills, simply because of the power..

You must have been stoned, or not riding that good when you attempted these hills.

PS: there are tons and tons of mulit-level hills at webster that vary terrain from loose dirt, to hardpack, roots, rocks, rock ledges, and my 400 pulls right up it..

Like i said in one of my other posts... the quad dosen't suck, the rider does.

You read me wrong, I am not saying the 400ex does not have power... It is way more powerfull than the 300ex , I said it was not geared well for the type of riding I was doing... It is geared for hauling *** and It does that well...

Anyway that is my opinion and it seems I am not the only one who thinks that way... you know the old saying... opinions are like a-holes... every one has one!

Ride Hard , Not Your Sister...

Later Dude....

I just put a 14 tooth on my 400EX this weekend, and haven't got a chance to take it for a ride yet. I was wondering, did you guys have to tigten the chain a LOT after putting the 14t on? I realize that the sprocket is smaller in size, so it makes sense that it needs tightened. Right now, the mark on the swingarm is pretty much lined up with the 3rd adjuster hole (the hole that you put the allen wrench in to rotate the axle). Is it pretty much out of adjustment now?
