help me with my jetting
#1
ok I got my supertrapp ids2....havin problems...I ran exactly what dyno jet said and it was too rich....I went with a smaller main....but it kinda fouled the plug.....so I was wonderin what size jettin ya'll used for this pipe and other supertrapp pipes....I'll pic up a couple extra plugs tomorrow....ok I'm below 1000 feet, runnin a hotter plug than stock,K&n filter and prolly gonna run without the airbox lid...DYno jet said the 118 but it was too rich....once I get the new plug I'll try the 116 and oh yea I have the dyno jet needle on the 4th groove....ok ya'll thanks

I believe Dyno uses their own in-house numbering system for their jets which don't correspond to Mikuni or Keihin sizes. You didn't say how you determined the bike was running rich ...at full throttle. 1/2, or 1/4 or less? that info would determine which jet circuit needs to be changed. For starters, I'd suggest that you return the jet needle to 3rd, or center position. Needle positions normally are described from the top of the needle down so I assume you have raised the needle one position from stock.
get your main jet size sorted out from a 3/4 to full throttle test/plug read first, and then test ride at the other throttle positions after that. With the needle at the position you have it you'd be somewhat fat from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle at your altitude. For jetting purposes, below 1200' is considered sea level.
BTW, if the pipe is the only air flow item you've changed, two sizes fatter main is a good starting place to test, trouble being, how do you know what that is in Dyno numbers? The other variable is the number of discs you are running...the more discs you run, the bigger fuel to air mix you need. I run a Super Trapp with 20 discs behind a Curtis Sparks pipe for example, and with other air flow mods, I run three sizes fatter on my main. That's why any accessory mfgr. cannot give you anything but a ball park figure on jetting...too many variables.

According to what I remember of the EX my wife had, the stock main jet was a .122. I put on a K&N, drilled a bunch of holes in the box, added a Supertrapp with 16 discs, left the needle in the 3rd groove (the middle) and went to a .127 main jet (that's up 2 sizes). Never fouled a plug, much less got it dirty. Never had any problems with it. Never touched the pilot jet either. Sometimes you can make things too complicated.

well I don't know what that would be with dyno jet main. I just got me 2 new plugs...they are hotter han the stock plug... the number is... NGK DPR8EA-9 I'm gonna mess with it again today and plan on gettin it runnin just right.....I'll let ya'll know what happens.......thanks

ok I got my plug and everything.....I put in the 128...thats the one DYno JEt jet said to use with the airbox lid off and I still have the lid on....anyways I out the needle on the 5th groove....and the plug is still kinda white....I went down to 8 discs to try to richen it even more.....its runnin good I just don't wanna burn it up...... something else when I get it really really wide open it starts to mis......I was wonderin if I might be hittin the rev limiter.....I dunno but if I could get a couple size bigger jets from dyno jet.......I might the stock plug but I'm gonna lose some performance....let me know what think I should do.......thanks....later
