My dad is looking for a quad that he can use around my grandpa's land. He dosent like going on the trails in the woods, but likes riding on the open land. He is trying to decide between 3 quads: 2001 Honda Recon, 2001 Yamaha Blaster, or a 2001 Polaris Trail Boss 325. What would be the better buy for him and what would fit him the best?

Go with the Recon or the Polaris. The Blaster is pretty quick, but is a kick start only, and fits smaller riders better. As to the other two, there will be differences in how they shift & in power. Personal preference! But I would factor in the dealer. You will eventually need warranty, parts and/or service work done. A good dealer goes a long way in how happy the owner is with a particular brand!

Blaster and dads dont mix. I think ur dad would love a recon. I think it is very sporty and very user friendly. Dont forget about used quads i think u get alot more for ur money

Remember the discussion about the rough suspension? Remember, this is dad. His back is older than ours and needs the amazingly smooth ride of the Sportsman 500!!

Recon

I would eliminate the blaster from the start. I do not think your dad will like the kick starting. What does he plan to do on the land? Will he be towing? If he is just planning on riding around, the trail boss is a great machine. It is quicker than the Recon and has better top end, but is also heavier. If he plans to do much towing, get the Recon. The Trail boss does not have low range and towing will eat the belt up fast in high gear. I own the trail boss and my riding buddy has the Recon. Both are really good machines. You will not go wrong with either one.

PS. The Recon comes with front racks, but the tboss has a hitch standard and way better stock tires than the Recon.

Greetings,

I can't imagine why he would want a Blaster so lets just move on to the other two. The Trail Boss has a much bigger feel to it than the Recon. Its also a smoother ride. But its much less zippy -- i.e. not as sporty.

A lot of this comes down to how big your dad is. I really like riding our Recon but I wouldn't have bought it as my primary vehicle -- its just too small. For a bit more money he could get a Rancher 2X4. Its a full size machine with plenty of power and should be just fine in fields (my front drive kicks in very infrequently, mostly in the snow).

Get the Recon, my daughter rides one and when I can steal a ride on it, it's a blast. It can haul my big butt around with ease. I'm 6'2" and 200lbs. Its a great mudder, climber and has a super low first gear for hauling or pulling. You can't go wrong with a Recon.

This is easy, go with the Honda Recon. It has good speed & excellent handling & its a 4 stroke.
