Boo to Honda

the plastic thing is kinda a weird idea. it don't look as bad as i thought it would, but it will definitly be diferent. might almost make a 450r rider feel full of himself when a 400ex rider pulls up on a look-a-like, but then toasts him down a straight.
kinda like yamaha's stupid "Raptor 350" idea. it's not a raptor. it looks sportier than a traditional warrior, i will give them that, but when people say (now "said") "raptor", you knew what they were talking about. now you have to make sure which one they are talking about to make sure you are not talking up a mild, heavy trail-quad by mistake.
if honda tries changing the name to "400r", and people start calling them "R"s, like the famed 250, and new 450, then it will get sucky.
anybody know how the reverse works, though? that probably wouldn't be something that could be added to an older 400 ex, huh? (without splitting the cases and buying new gears and stuff)
that's one of the major things i miss going from my mojave to my 400ex. i've come to realize i don't need to use it that much anyways, but still a convenience and comfort of mind to have.
along with the "650r" i thought honda was supposed to re-introduce the 250r (new cr250 motor in 450r style frame) ???

Taken a good quad (the Warrior IS a good quad, dispite some differing opinions) and made it better, not turned it into something else ...
The new 400EX is still a 400EX with updated plastics and the improvement of adding reverse which lots of people seemed to think was something required to keep pace with the zuki's.
The Raptor 350 is plastics and name change. Everything else is all Warrior really. They should have kept the Warrior name, and improved on the machine.
As for the "mild, heavy trail-quad" .. the new Rap 350 is actually lighter than the 400EX so careful with the fat jokes LOL Albeit the Rap is lacking some 10hp on the EX ....

actually, i used to ride and race a 90 mojave, so i know slow and heavy. (it's big on power for a 250, but still slow.)
i used to feel like a pro when i would harescramble it and beat all the big quads (400exs, raptors, banshees, etc...)
then i got my 400 ex this season and figured i'd be unstoppable.
till a friend i made at the track beat me on his warrior this season once. what a humbling day. he rode the wheels off that thing and just plain outrode me that day (i was on his tail after he passed me when i made a mistake and nailed a tree early on in the race. we went 2-3 out of 14 or 15 or something in c class) he got a kfx400 by the next race, it's just that they are not what most people think of as a high performance quad, slightly because of their kinda utility quad look (before the redesign)

i'm not suprised at all that honda didn't make any huge changes, or introduce a 650ex or 650r. in the past honda has come out with a good bike, usually outdone a lil bit on the high performance end of things by yamaha (or suzuki in the case of the 400ex) and they've never made a serious change to ne thing the next year. i doubt that ne body will be making a 650 with all the technology of the 450r and yfz 450, the bike would simply be too fast and powerful. of course all of us hardcore enthusiests, and racers would love it, but could u imagine the warning label that would be on that thing? it would say u have to be like 21 to ride it! not to mention you would get an average rider who wants the latest and greatest and doesn't know jack about the sport buying a quad that would be capable of like 85mph+ as for the plastics thing, that pisses me off. i hate how yamaha's yfz and raptor look so much alike, i pride myself on being able to identify ne sport quad jus by lookin at it, and those 2 bikes make that very difficult. plus i like having something different, a bike that stands out (in a good way) and having 400ex's around that look like my bike, not cool.

Well I figured a 650 would be toned down a bit like the raptor, it would still have plenty of torque. Beside I think they are not allowed to make them go over 77mph from the factory.
