I thought they were popular when they first came out, whats going on? I just looked at one at the local yamaha-honda dealership. They look pretty good to me. Whats up with them? I am in the market for utility quad, and i am lookin at the Ruby, Sportsman, and now the Grizzly. I want a utility quad that is kinda fast, a good mudder-climber, and a good ride.!. I know the Grizzly is fast, but what about the other features in a utlility quad. I see a lot of Sportsmans, and Rubys, but what about the Grizzly. You Get 600cc for 600 pounds, that sounds like a good deal to me. I thought they were the hottest things out there, but now that i came to forums i hear a lot of bad things about them. Any info on the grizzly would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

BTW I bought a 2k foreman es over a grizzly due to the bad things i heard about them. I like my foreman es, and i am going to keep it. But at a top speed of 47 that is to slow for me. I dont want a sport quad just a faster utility quad.

They are a good quad, they live up to there Rep very well as being powerful and fast. What did you hear bad? and honestly , don't use these forums for all your info, compared to the number of actual owners the posts in here are minimal.

Grizzlys are good quads. The only problem that I am aware off is in 1998 the radiator was too low in the frame & would clog up, thus causing the Griz to overheat. In 1999 they moved it higher up in the frame thus eliminating the problem.

We have one in our club, the guy likes it.

If you want a fast utility quad then the grizz is certainly a great quad for that part. If you want a great mudder and a really fast sport/slightly utility quad then ya might want to look into the polaris scramblers. they are super fast and with the AWD system of the do great in the mud.

The limiting factor for the scrambler in a utility sense is the absence of a LOW range on the tranny. You have to be super careful when pulling something with a scrambler otherwise you my burn your belt up....i have seen this happen on a scrambler 500 when he was pulling home a broken grizz. The grizz was wrecked.

The sportsman will have the better ride of the three because of the IRS. I'm not sure how a drag race would pan out but i think it would be the Grizz, followed by the Sportsman and close behind the Ruby. Just a guess i have never seen a Ruby race just trail ride so I'm not sure how it will pull compared to the others. I do know that my buddies grizz will leave a sportsman.

The only problems my buddy has had are the ones he has caused. It has never overheated. Its a 99 model i believe.

sorry bout the disorganized post. My thoughts aren't very organized right now

l8r and hoope this helps with something, with what i have no idea

Get the fastest utility quad with low range. The 400 Polaris Explorer. I do like the Grizz. though. I tell you what my buddy has a 350 wolverine and it's pretty cool. It won't out run my Explorer ,but it gives my buddy on his 300ex a pretty good race.

I just bought a 2000 grizz. I was going to get a rubi but decided to wait after I heard that some pepole were having some probles with them, I'll probably wait a year or two. The grizz was also $1200 cheeper. So far I have been real impressed with the grizz. It is way fast but does not have as smooth a ride as I would like. After my buddy rode it he said there was no way he would race, and he has a sp500. I don't think you would be dissapointed

I bought a brand new 1999 Grizzly in February 1999, by October 1999 it kept stalling when placed into reverse. I couldn't find the problem even with the shop manual (I replaced $300.00 worth of parts), the Yamaha dealer couldn't find the problem either. So I wrote to Yamaha Motor Corp. they did'nt even care! So I sold that piece JUNK. and I've been riding red even since. "Honda best on the earth" darn right! Yamaha stinks!

I have never seen any problems with the Grizz. I have heard of some, but never saw it. I haven't rode with many, but enough to hear good reviews from owners.

The SP500 isn't as fast as the Grizz, but not by much. This of course, no longer matters as the SP500 HO will hit showroom floors pretty soon. The Explor 400 is another good choice. If you don't like the 2 strokes the Explor will be a problem.

SP500 in NS (wanting to add HO to the name)
