Any one run a 12T counter shaft ? is it possable to run a 12T or should I change the back one I went to a 13T but I still cant go as sliow as I want to. I ride with my son he has a CRF 50 bike hes not the fastest kid out on the trail. when I ride behind him I have to use the clutch a lot or I will kill it. I think I should have goten a LTZ 400 insted of the 450r The 450r is not ment to go slow I know LoL

Thanks Tim

I was told to never go smaller than 13 teeth on a 520 chain. If you look at a 12 tooth sprocket you might see it. The teeth are getting to far apart and can start ripping off. I do know guys that run 12 on Raptors but I'd be afraid to.

You could go up to a 40 or even more and that would slow it down, also.

A company named Rekluse makes an auto clutch system for the 450R. It costs $500.00 and Dirt Wheels Mag. says it eliminates the go slow/stall problem. It's called the Rekluse Z-Start system.

I've seen it for $399.00

I have a 12, 13, and the stocker. I ran the 12 a couple of days & had no problems......

Even the Z400 doesn't like to putt along that well. It doesn't like to rev as much as the 450R, but it doesn't enjoy lugging down either. The machine that really can lug down is the 400EX!!!

I would agree that the autoclutch is the solution for those who want to trail ride the 450R.

I prefer going bigger in the rear when possible, but I don't have that option because my skid plate doesn't have room for a bigger sprocket.

I bought a 13T front sprocket, but haven't put it on because I am suspecting it will make the front end to light. Occasionally with the 14T if I gas it hard out of a corner, the front gets light and I loose some steering control, so I am forced to back off.

rcpilot. i'm sure you have it done by know but a 12 is fine to run with a 520 chain. go to the yamaha froum and search raptor gearing you will see that almos EVERYONE runs a 12 in frount.
