I am looking to buy a new quad for $3,800 or less and I am thinking of 1 of these three.
1. Yamaha Blaster
2. Honda Recon
3. Yamaha Bear Tracker
I will be riding up some hills and also on small rocks. Which would be the best to buy.

This is a favor from one atv enthuisiast to another. Do not go buy a wimpy bike just because it is new. With 3800 you shoul easily be able to go buy the bike with the most performance potential than any bike out there,THE 250R. I don't own one but if i did'nt have a 400ex that is what i would one. Later on your gonna want suspension and other aftermarket parts because you will be a better rider, and you will be pissed you bought some cheasy little bike like a blaster. Don't dissapoint yourself and go get a 86-89 Honda 250R.

Brandon, Go with the Recon. I had a Beartracker, when it was called the Timberwolf & it was drasticly lacking in power. My friend had a Kaw 220 & it would outclimb & outrun the Timberwolf. The Blaster is much more a sport bike, and it is real quick, but it has some inherent problems. Also the Blaster is manual clutch (personal pref but if you are not an experienced rider, go with the auto clutch), & kick start only. If you need to go new - go with the Recon. If you would consider used, go with a Honda 300 or you can probably even get a used Rancher (2wd) for $3800. If you go with the Recon & decide to move up to more power or utility later, well, a Honda holds it's value real well.

2 strokes are less reliable than 4 strokes but a 250R is definately the best sport bike out there for 3800. You might be able to find a used 400ex for around 4300. Don't get a heavy recon or other farm bike. Go Sporty and be happy. the handling is twice as good and there are 20 times more aftermarket parts to get in the future.

Look into a newer 300ex, like a 97 up. U can find em around that price range with a pipe, airfilter and more mods on em already.

If those were my only choices for a quad I'd buy a pickup truck instead.

Real intelligent response(above) to a sincere question. Every quad made is the best quad out there for someone!

id take the recon
dont get a 250r. it may be the best quad design ever but half the time the atv has to be apart for maintenance. i dont think a high maintenance quad is what your looking for so get a recon. i have only changed the oil and gas for 3 + years.
