Thinking Of buying a Rancher
Hello,
I'm thinking of buying a 04 Rancher with the autoshift trans, and gps. I'm coming from a larger size quad and i was wonder if the the power of a rancher is going to be noticed alot, even with alot of bolt ons. I'm only 160 pounds so there wont be to much weight on the machine, I also will add 26 inch mud tread tires. i jsut need some advice,

DON'T DO IT. If you had a larger quad YOU WILL NOT LIKE IT. Not the most powerful qaud in its class. Yes I have one, but it is the largest quad I have owned. The power is decent for me, but I wish I would have bought a Ruby with a 424 installed instead.
I am just trying to save us both a headache, because if you buy one I will guarantee I will see a post in a few days after you buy it titled "Unhappy with my AT", then I have to read it and regret AGAIN buying my AT.
Good luck

700 Polaris, 400 scrabbler, 454 artic cat, honda rubicon 03. I had a honda rubicon with 12x12 rear and front Vampires with 424. its jsut to big for trail riding i know the 12x12 tires has the biggest deal but man the artic cat 454 could smoek the rubicon threw the trails,
I want to Stay with honda, I want what ever verison of the rancher that has the same liek trans as the rubicon the eletric shift, i think. I want gps and the new body style. No Rincon.I'm not that big of a guy 5'11 and 160 pounds and man the rubicon was a pain is the but i nthe tight tails, i want something smaller with some power, and can deal with 26 inch tires. I don't know if the ES is the best model of the rancher but i don't want something thats gonna leave me walking. not bashing polaris but polaris did. couldn't bet it runign tho.

If you want the same trans as the Rubicon, then you are talking the 400AT. It gets dissed in the shootouts for not having a lot of low end grunt. Add big tires, and it will be even worse.
I personally like the Rancher size/weight. It is big enought to do the job, but not the hulking beast that most utes are these days. With aftermarket tires and aluminum rims, I have my 350 4X4 down to 500 lbs. That is 100+ lbs. lighter than the average ute. Go pick up 100 lbs., and you will realize that is a lot of weight!
