I am looking to purchase a new 2005 Honda ATV, have never really driven before but do not like to under buy. I need to know which is better for ordinary riding (small tracks, with hills or old railroad track riding along with just dirt tracks/trails). I am considering a 400EX or 450EX. I should state that my mechanical apptitude is very low.

 

It is a 450r not 450ex. The 400ex would be better for a beginner, over the 450r. I am not sure that either would be great for a beginner, though.

The new 400ex has reverse as well. They have plenty of power, plus they are easy to kit if you decide you want more power. Lots of parts on the market.
