I run 15w50 synthetic in mine year round. I give it extra warm up time in the winter just in case. I also don't ride when it's extremely cold, not because of my oil, just because it's not fun when it's that cold... The cold pumpability of synthetic 15w50 exceeds that of 10w40 conventional in general. If it bothers you to run this weight in the winter, just switch to something like 5w30 for the cold months, just be sure to change it before the temps start coming up.

All the EXs that I have seen that are run on 10w40 year round burn oil, some more than others, but they will all blow puffs of smoke out when ridden hard.

Well well, this post has gotten interesting... 1st.. Gabe you are running a 42 pilot.. Is that in the stock Carb?? 2nd... I installed my FMF powerbomb header and when I took off the stock one I noticed black soot in the head.. I also run a 165 main as you can see by my signature file... The black soot is not built up thick so everything is good.. One way to remove some of that carbon (just like you do in your car) is run some 100 octane through it and jet 1 size down. This should burn off some of the carbon build up... Remember that an explosions are happening in your engine and naturally fire turns everything that it comes into contact with into carbon..Charcoal

Yes, it is a stock carb.

Yes, carbon is normal, but the plug should be clean if all else is in order.

What do you think of the powerbomb? Did it lower the noise level at all?

Skunk,

I'd like to know about the fmf package too. I've got it down between the FMF Power core IV with the power bomb header combo and the Big Gun combo. Let me know how the power feels. I'm looking for some more bark on the low and mid end of the power band. Let me know.
