Can anyone tell me how to repair the radiator on an 86 250r if it is leaking? Should I just take it to a radiator shop or is it something that can be done by myself?

It's just a radiator. If you're really good with a torch, go for it. Me, I take it to a shop and drop it off and come back later.

P.S.
Don't let my brother fix it either. He can fix one leak and create another all at the same time.
