Anyone had this problem ? If so please advise.
Putting my Cabellas PN#1587 winch mount on I discovered that the winch would not go on due to the fact that the winch hit the back of the Right front headlight cover. Called Cabellas and they say its the correct mount. Then called the dealer and talked to service since they use the same mount. They said to unsnap the headlight cover (rear) and the winch goes right in.
They were right ,But is this going to be a problem? I do see alot of water and mud for some strange reason!!! Anyone out there got any input?
Having the rear of the headlight uncovered all the time that is. Thanks.

rbrok,

I had the EXACT same problem, but it's an easy fix. If you don't want to remove the winch from your bike you don't have to, it just takes a little longer to get this done. Here is the step by step on what to do according to warn:
1. remove the four allen head bolts that hold the motor assembly on the winch.

2. at this point, the motor assembly will be free. Simply remove it and set it on the table, open end up. (be careful not to lose the tension spring when removing motor--it will be sticking out of the winch.

3. reach in and remove the planetary gear assembly from the motor housing, along with the shims that should be on top of it.

4. at this point you should be able to see where two nuts are located down in the housing. you will also see two empty slots where the nuts can go.

5. remove the two long bolts that these nuts are attached to. Now remove the loose nuts and insert them into the other two holes.

6. reassemble everything opposite of the way it came apart.

7. upon reassembly, you should notice that the electrical post that was pushing up into your right headlight is now facing straight towards the front of the rancher, thus resulting in a perfect fit!

If you call warn on this they will tell you to remove the winch from the rancher in order to do this, but thats a lot of extra work and I did this to mine without removing the winch, it was really easy.

Good luck, Greg.

Thanks for the input Greg. I will try it on Sat. Gave up on the project last night 'cos I was tired and did not want to rush it and cut corners. Or make mistakes.

I mounted a Warn 2500 on my 2001 Rancher and used a mount from Highlifter and it fit like it was a OEM part, no mods needed, very pleased
Keep the seat up!
Ron
