Default Jetting a 400ex

Okay, i put on a pro circuit t-4 pipe, still have the stock head pipe, and i went up to a 155 main jet. I also put on a k&n air filter with an outwear and took the air box lid off. So my question is can i put a bigger jet in? I read a post where someone put a 160 main jet with a white bros pipe and it runs fine, but i have checked my plug and its the right color, whiteish brownish, with the 155. I just wounder if i go with a 160 if it will cause my bike to run rich? If anybody has and comments then please reply. And what size jets are you running with pipe combo. ?Thanks.

you should probably rejet after taking the airbox lid off..whiteish brown doesnt sound like the right color to me,it should be a coffee brown..i dont remember what my buddy runs for jetting,he has pretty much the same mods as you..

You can jet up a size or 2 and still be fine. If you start to jet up and it starts to not run as good it is to rich. On top end it will bog down if too rich.

I'm thinking a 158mj, and a 45pj would work best.

I went with the 160 main and it dosent seem to be breaking up on the top, but i did notice a lil bit of soot, not much, in my pipe, but that may have been there before i changed the jet. I will clean the pipe out and see what happens tomorrow. But i have noticed a big diff when i pin the throttle, there seems to me alot more power. But if my pipe is sooting up should i go down to a 158? If this helps, here in NC where i live its right i sea level. Thanks again guys. Oh, also i have not donw anything to my carb other then changing the main jet, and yeah i have noticed its a lil hard to start some times so i think i am going to put in a bigger pilot jet, I've been told a 45 works good. What is the stock pilot jet size?

Move the needle clip one position towards the point. Turn the fuel mixture out 1/2 turn. THEN try to find the right main.

Okay, help me here, what does it do when you move the clip on the needle? And will it help me to turn the fuel mixture screw out? And if it does then how?
